Effective October 1, 2012, physician’s will have additional limitations on how they advertise. They can not represent that they are certified by a public or private board or board certified UNLESS the full name of the board is disclosed along with the specialty or subspecialty in which the physician is certified. The law further requires that the certifying board must meet certain requirements and that in order for a physician to obtain a certification they must have completed the specified requirements that are set out in the law.
The advertisement must also meet the rules and regulations set forth by the Maryland Board of Physicians.
