HPK Defense Verdict In Equine Veterinarian Malpractice Matter

Congratulations to HPK Member Joan Cerniglia-Lowensen.  Ms. Cerniglia-Lowensen obtained a defense verdict for a veterinarian accused of causing the death of a stallion valued at over $900,000.00

In the case,  Ms. Cerniglia-Lowensen’s client was a veterinarian accused of using an improper sedative that allegedly lead to colic, gastric rupture, and the death of a breeding stallion.  The stallion was valued at approximately $900,000.  The trial, which was a jury trial held in Cecil County Circuit Court, lasted three and a half days. Once the case was handed to the jury, however, it only took the jurors 40 minutes to determine that the veterinarian was not negligent in his treatment of the animal.
