Congratulations to PK Law attorney Lisa Settles for being selected to the Daily Record’s Top 100 Women List

Ms. Settles is an experienced trial attorney who represents corporate clients and governmental entities in federal and state courts.  She primarily defends private and public sector employers including boards of education and religious institutions in civil actions, including race, religious, gender and disability discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, child sex abuse, premises liability, wrongful discharge, FMLA, wage/hour, motor tort, and contract claims.

Ms. Settles manages all phases of civil litigation in federal and state courts at trial and appellate levels, including fact investigation, pre-trial discovery, extensive motions practice, settlement negotiations, witness preparation, trial advocacy and post-trial motions.  She routinely represents employers in disciplinary proceedings, including termination hearings and appeals, provides counsel to executive and managerial personnel in labor and employment matters, and defends and prosecutes discrimination and relation claims before the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and the Maryland Commission on Civil Rights (formerly the Maryland Commission on Human Relations).

An active member of the community, Ms. Settles is on the Board of Directors of Hannah More School, a day school for students grades 6-12 with a primary disability of emotional disturbance, autism, learning disabilities, and other health impairments, a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, an organization whose purpose is to provide assistance and support through established programs in local communities, and The Links, a volunteer service organizations of women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry.

This is Ms. Settles second time being honored as one of “MD’s top 100 Women”.

The winners are selected by an outside panel of business leaders based on professional accomplishment, community involvement and commitment to mentoring.

Retirement Seminar featuring Mark F. Scurti, Esquire at St. Matthew United Church

St. Matthew United Church of Christ will be sponsoring a retirement seminar on Saturday, April 21st, from 10am to 12pm. The location is 3400 Norman Avenue and the event is free of charge.

Mark F. Scurti, Esquire, will be on hand to speak about estate planning, wills, power of attorney, and trust funds.  Joining him will be HPK paralegal, LeDonna Berman, who will be on hand to answer questions about elder care laws and long term care issues.
